Before I knew about TLF, I was an aimless young man. I spent my time wandering the streets as a wild motorcycle racer, frequently getting drunk and taking drugs.
One day, my neighbour passed me a TLF brochure. I hate reading, but somehow I decided to flip through the brochure.
That was the best decision of my life because the contents of the brochure made me realise that I was wasting my life away. It me realise that I will not have a future if I continued down this path. Immediately, I applied and made the 811km trip to TLF. I was 22.
Over the course of the three months, the life skills and education I picked up at TLF transformed me into a completely different person. The three months made me realise my purpose in life - farming. With TLF’s help, I got a job in Bali after graduation. I worked there for two years before moving to Aceh as I received a better job offer. In Aceh, I thrived. I also found the love of my life and I am happily married with two kids.
Now, my family and I live in Yogyakarta where I work as an organic farmer. My friend and I own 700m2 of land at the Yogya Organic Community where we do everything from planting to selling vegetables. We also sell seedings, solid and liquid fertilisers and provide urban farming services for city homes. I am grateful for the many doors that TLF helped open for me. Without TLF, I would never have received the opportunities that I did and most importantly I would never have found my calling in life.
